BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – New Samford head women's basketball coach Matt Wise was introduced to the media and the Samford community and his introductory press conference Wednesday morning in the Coca-Cola Hospitality Suite in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
Wise was promoted to the head coaching position after serving for three seasons on the Samford staff. He talked about why he loves being at Samford.
 
"After three years at Samford, I want to tell you all 'Why Samford' for me," Wise said. "I was a Division III athlete, I got to experience a high-level college education and college experience. You can't get that everywhere, along with the athletics, but you can at Samford. I've gotten to be a part of championship teams everywhere I've been, and man this place is all about it.
 
"I've been a part of really hard work everywhere I've been and at Samford, to me, nobody's scared of a little hard work," Wise said. "And then lastly is how faith-driven this place is. Obviously, we've been very grateful to God in our journey in the good times, but we've had some rough times as well and we've had to really, really lean on our faith together."
